One Sunday in 1996 at a church in Fremont, CA. a young woman made a remark about Senior Citizens which sparked Rev. Eddie West, Jr to start a Senior Ministry in order to get seniors active and involved. The woman said "Senior Citizens in this Church should sit down, be quiet and let the young people run the Church". The Pastor and Rev. Eddie West started the Senior Ministry in which the seniors participated in church services, other events and outside activities. In April of 1997 Rev. West and his family moved to Tracy and continued his ministry. With ten members they voted to call themselves the "Golden Agers". They elected officers, visited the sick, went bowling, fishing and prayed together. In January 1998 Rev. West was called to be the pastor at a church in Los Banos. Without Rev. West the Golden Agers went inactive, however one year later the organization sprang to life with 20 members who made a few changes. The age for membership changed to 50 years of age and membership dues were set at $10.00 a year. This money helped to defray the cost of the groups activities. The group undertook fundraising to supplement the treasures expenses. When the going got tough Rev. West reached in his pocket to help out. In August 1999 they celebrated their first Annual Senior Recognition Day. In 2001 new officers were elected and By-Laws were written and voted on by the general membership. All the money received from dues and fund-raisers was, and still is, used to pay all or part of the cost for social outings. As time goes on so does our History.
